Tvář 0/68 UNPUBLISHED!
The present issue of the magazine Tvář (0/68) is the original version of the first issue of the renewed Tvář (1/68). It contains substantial portions of the debate on the renewal of the Tvář at the Central Committee of the SČSS.
"Already during the "revival process", on 18 April 1968, the Central Committee of the SČSS discussed the request of the former editorial circle of Tvář for the renewal of the magazine (after Tvář was banned for the first time). The representatives of Tvář were not invited to the hearing, they waited in the hall and were finally told the result. For the first issue of Tvář, we then prepared an extract from the stenographic record of that meeting, which the SČSS Central Committee had obtained for its own use. Unfortunately, the deadlines regarding the publication of the magazine were scary in the sixties; the first issue was not due out until early September 1968. But on 21 August, as is well known, "the Warsaw Pact troops came to us" (more precisely, the Russians invaded us). Then, in view of the changed situation, we did not consider it appropriate to publish a document that did not put the then leadership of the SČSS, which was viciously attacked by Russian collaborators after the invasion for completely different and wrong reasons, in a very good light. However, the original version of the first issue of the renewed Tvář, including substantial parts of the debate on the renewal of the Tvář at the Central Committee of the SČSS, as prepared but ultimately not used, has survived and is now available here."
